Initial situation
Designed for growth: Promega is one of the world’s largest manufacturers in the life science industry for reagents, kits and device systems. With the “Promega Under One Roof” project, the company has been uniting its functional areas and subsidiaries, which were previously spread across different locations, under one new, innovative roof in Walldorf since the end of 2019.

A multi-storey “marketplace” forms the centre of the logistics centre with administration. This centre clusters offices, logistics and production areas. Employees and guests are led to the marketplace via the distinctive main entrance and from there access the various levels of the building.

On three floors, the open working environment currently offers more than 100 workplaces and numerous opportunities for informal exchange. In addition, there is sufficient space expansion and growth in the coming years. A wooden frame of around 9,000 square metres spans the building and illustrates the conceptual idea of bringing different functions under one roof.

The project: furnishing collaboration areas and meeting places in the open working environment with space for around 100 employees

Design process
As a modern employer, Promega is committed to the personal and professional growth of all employees. Creativity, work-life balance and personal development are encouraged. The new company building in Walldorf sends a sign of modernity and stands for sustainable efficiency with a high ecological quality.
The external effect should also continue inside the new building. The open workplaces and informal meeting points are arranged around the central light-flooded and greened atrium. With its roof openings, it supports natural ventilation. Employees will find networking opportunities at numerous points throughout the building, such as in the cafeteria, the fitness area or the coffee bars available on each floor.

As a specialist for working environments that turns the office into a reference space, ophelis, in cooperation with our furnishing partner Leonhard, furnished the various collaboration areas and meeting points of the three-storey building.

Seating furniture and benches from our modular ophelis docks system were used, which can be grouped in different ways and are specially designed for communication zones and lounges.
